About the Job
Equation Staffing is currently building a pool of experienced and safety-focused Equipment Operators for upcoming industrial and construction projects throughout Fort McMurray and the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.

We are seeking operators with experience safely operating one or more types of heavy construction equipment. Equipment requirements will vary depending on the individual project, so candidates are encouraged to clearly identify the equipment they are experienced and qualified to operate.

Employment Type: Temporary / Project-Based / Casual
Schedule: Varies by project
Start Dates: Ongoing / Based on Project Requirements

Equipment Experience: We are interested in hearing from operators with experience on equipment such as:
  • Excavators,
  • Loaders / Wheel Loaders,
  • Skid Steers.
  • Telehandlers.
  • Backhoes.
  • Dozers.
  • Graders.
  • Compaction Equipment.
  • Other heavy construction or earthmoving equipment.

Responsibilities: Depending on the project and equipment operated, duties may include:
  • Safely operating heavy equipment in industrial and construction environments.
  • Performing excavation, grading, loading, material handling or site preparation.
  • Moving soil, aggregate, construction materials and other materials as required.
  • Supporting construction crews and other trades on site.
  • Performing daily pre-use equipment inspections.
  • Identifying and reporting equipment defects, damage or safety concerns.
  • Completing basic equipment checks and maintaining clean equipment.
  • Working safely around ground personnel, vehicles and other equipment.
  • Following site plans, directions and designated work areas.
  • Maintaining awareness of changing ground and site conditions.
  • Following all company, client and site-specific safety procedures.
  • Completing other site support duties as required.

Qualifications:
  • Previous experience operating heavy construction or industrial equipment is required.
  • Candidates must be able to demonstrate experience with the specific equipment they are being considered to operate.
  • Previous experience on industrial, civil or construction sites is strongly preferred.
  • Equipment operator training or certification is considered an asset
  • Strong understanding of equipment and worksite safety.
  • Ability to complete pre-use equipment inspections.
  • Reliable, punctual and able to follow instructions from site supervision.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather and site conditions.
  • Ability to work effectively around other equipment, workers and trades.
  • Flexibility to work different shifts and project schedules.
  • Appropriate PPE as required by the project.

Safety Tickets & Certifications: Depending on the project or client site, workers may be required to hold one or more of the following:
  • CSTS.
  • CSO.
  • H2S Alive.
  • Fall Protection.
  • Confined Space.
  • WHMIS.
  • Standard First Aid.
  • Equipment-specific training or competency verification.
  • Additional project or site-specific certifications.

Assignment Information: Potential assignments may include:
  • Short-term construction projects.
  • Civil and earthworks projects.
  • Industrial site work.
  • Shutdown and turnaround support.
  • Several-week assignments.
  • Three-to-six-month projects.
  • Longer-term project opportunities.
